HC Sets Aside Land Allotment For SEZs In Goa

In a major blow to special economic zone (SEZ) developers, the high court of Bombay at Goa on Friday held that Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) had allotted over 30 lakh sq m of land to promoters illegally and sans proper scrutiny. Upholding the state government’s decision to withdraw the SEZ policy in public interest, a division bench comprising justices A S Oka and F M Reis said, “The allotment of lands to the companies has been made in undue haste without proper scrutiny of their applications. The allotment has been made arbitrarily. Procedure adopted in the allotment is not fair and transparent. The allotments made by GIDC do not stand the test of reasonableness.” Read more »

How Women Seized NREGA

More women than men work under the national programme that guarantees employment to rural people. In the current fiscal till October, women availed of more than 50 per cent of employment created under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Climate Change Will Hit 20% Of Western Ghat In 40 yrs: Expert

A senior researcher from Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bangalore has predicted that climate change in next four decade will affect 20 percent of the Western Ghat, which is a bio diversity hot spot. IISC’s forest and bio diversity assessment team head, H N Ravindranath has feared that the there will be more forest fire. The researcher also feels that there will be pest attack and diseases, dwindling the cover forest.
