The government is obsessed with economic growth. Employment is bound to follow, it claims. That’s a delusion. The swelling numbers of unemployed still continues . Jobs are what all Indians want. Governments know this. But they do not know how to create jobs. The problem is that the much-touted mantra of economic growth does not generate jobs. Till the eighties and mid nineties, the coastal belt of Benaulim was known as the hub for carpenters and bakers of south Goa. And at every feast in the south, they would ritually display their furniture and wares at roadside bazaars where the feast was held, while proudly proclaiming their origins. Wetlands Rules 2010 Notified

The Ministry of Environment and Forests today notified the Wetlands (Conservation and Management) Rules, 2010. These Rules, which for the first time lay down legally enforceable provisions for the conservation and management of Wetlands, have been drafted to ensure better conservation and management and to prevent further degradation of existing wetlands in India. While Ayodhya verdict is under criticism from various quarters for ignoring the basic issue of land dispute, for ignoring the illegal installation of Ram Lalla idols on the night of 23 Dec 1949 and the demolition of the masjid by Sangh Parivar on 6th December 1992, a new dimension has been added to the issue. Mumbai slum children facing acute malnutrition

Malnutrition, illness and abject poverty have taken a severe toll on children in Mumbai’s Rafiq Nagar slum. Situated in a vast dumping ground, swarming with flies, and packed with garbage heaps at every step, the destitute colony has seen a series of child deaths since April this year, even as authorities scramble to ascertain their causes.Seven-month old Asif Sheikh from Rafiq nagar slum died on Tuesday. His death comes less than a week after one-and-a-half-year-old Sahil Sheikh lost his life in the same slum.
