Name PWD officer who will handle water-related plaints: HC

The high court of Bombay at Goa on Monday directed the state government to file an affidavit on October 12 specifying the name of the public works department (PWD) officer who would handle complaints related to irregular water supply to Porvorim and Socorro in Bardez. The court passed the order in connection with a public interest litigation filed by one Soter D Souza, a resident of Socorro, complaining about acute water shortage in Porvorim and surrounding areas. The court had also taken on record several reports in the press, including an article published in TOI on May 21, about the water scarcity faced by the residents .

During the hearing, amicus curaie Norma Alvares suggested that the government should appoint an officer of the PWD to deal with the complaints filed by locals regarding the irregular water supply. She also pointed out that the directions issued by the high court on June 3 have not been fully complied with by the government.

Government advocate Manish Salkar stated that as per the directions of the court, a fortnightly schedule of timings of water supply is displayed near the water reservoirs.

The court, thereafter, directed the government to file an affidavit giving the name of the PWD officer who would be appointed for receiving complaints from citizens.
