GBA adamant on march to CM’s residence

Once again Chief Minister Digambar Kamat will have to face a test from the ‘aam aadmi’ on finalisation of the Regional Plan 2021, even as his office worked overtime on the 13th October 2010 to convince the Goa Bachao Abhiyan to cancel their agitation programme on the 14th October 2010. Convenor GBA Sabina Martins said the CM’s office called to say that he would be out of station. “We don’t accept this as he would be very much in Goa to attend the inaugural programme of International Travel Mart at Campal, here”, she stated.
Martins mentioned the police machinery too seemed to be all geared up to stop them from marching to the CM’s official residence at Altinho, here. An officer called me and told me they would stop us at the Church Square and allow us no further, she said, and added, “I find all this to be pressure tactics”.
She said the officer of the rank of DySP initially asked her to avoid the march citing the election Code of Conduct. “If that’s the case then all this while the authorities should have not allowed religious and other processions”, she augured.
Martins said many people from the innermost corners of the State and members of village groups will arrive in Panjim at the Azad Maidan at 4.30 pm to a legitimate demand. “Our march is on; whether the CM is there or not, we will see that our memorandum reaches his table”, she asserted.
She said the various groups and people will assemble at the Azad Maidan, here, at 4.30 pm and then proceed to Altinho come what may.
