A sense of alienation is pervading the strife-torn Valley and the Kashmiri youth is haunted by the spectre of unemployment, a member of the all-party delegation that recently visited the border state said today.
“The Kashmiri people are feeling alienated from rest of the country and are harbouring the notion that nobody understands their sentiments,” MP Raju Shetty, who belongs to pro-farmer Swabhiman party said at a talk organised by Sarhad, a social organisation working for Kashmiri migrants here.
The drop in the number of tourists is affecting economy of the state and the common man is bearing the brunt of the unrest with the educated youth desperately seeking the non-existent jobs, he said.
Shetty said during his interaction with people in Srinagar he came across youths whose main demands were employment and withdrawal of the army from civilian areas.
